Your ski holiday in Sillian, near the Alta Pusteria ski resort

Winter in East Tyrol: Pure. Unhurried.

As the landscape settles into a quiet white, everything shifts.
The air turns cooler, clearer — each breath more present. Sounds fade, making space for a stillness that feels almost tangible. Just a few steps beyond Italy’s edge, winter reveals itself here in its most natural form — calm, reduced, and focused on what truly matters. A time for genuine moments: movement in the crisp mountain air, the warmth of retreat, the conscious experience of time. No rush. No distraction.

Winter walking. Snowshoeing. Ski touring.

When the snow begins to crunch underfoot and the landscape settles into stillness, a different kind of winter unfolds — for those who prefer to explore at their own pace. Around the AMIL chalets, countless possibilities open up. On foot, with snowshoes, or on skins — the mountains are yours.

Particularly striking are winter walks along the Schustertal trail near Kartitsch, through the Val Fiscalina in Sesto, or into the Val Campo di Dentro near San Candido. Snowshoe routes in the Villgraten Valley or towards the Bonner Hütte above Dobbiaco offer ideal conditions: quiet paths, deep snow-covered forests, and wide, open views. The area around the Leckfeldalm and the Kartitsch Saddle is just as rewarding — calm, scenic, and away from the crowds. For ski touring, peaks such as the Thurntaler, Hornischegg, or Monte Elmo offer a range of options — easily accessible, varied, and suitable for both beginners and more experienced tourers. And perhaps the most rewarding part: returning to your chalet afterwards — to the warmth of the sauna, the glow of the stove, and a deep sense of calm.

Sledding — for every pace

In and around Sillian, several toboggan runs offer different ways to experience winter — with or without a climb. Particularly charming is the natural toboggan run from the Leckfeldalm: the ascent is rewarded with regional specialties served at the hut.
For a more effortless option, take the cable car up to the Golzentipp in Obertilliach — and enjoy the long, winding ride back down into the valley. In the Winkeltal, a floodlit run leads directly to the Reiterstube: sled rental, a warm stop, and traditional dishes included.
